Chelsea welcome Tottenham to Stamford Bridge in what promises to be another heated London derby. Neither side comes into this fixture in top form, but both know the importance of 3 points with European qualification still on the line for the Blues and pride to play for with Spurs adrift from the Top 4.
Chelsea Faltering Against the Better Sides
While Enzo Maresca’s side sit in 4th, their recent run has raised concerns. Just 4 wins in their last 13 league outings, and all of them came against teams in the bottom five. That’s not the kind of form that inspires confidence, especially as Chelsea have struggled for goals and cutting edge in recent weeks.
With inconsistency setting in and questions around tactical flexibility, the Blues are hard to trust at odds-on pricing, especially against a Spurs team that have some of their star players returning from injury.
Spurs Strengthening at the Back
Tottenham have also had their fair share of ups and downs, but Ange Postecoglou can take encouragement from improved defensive solidity. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are fit again, and Dejan Kulusevski could return to add creative spark.
Spurs have only lost 2 of their last 6 in the Premier League. With wins over Man United, Ipswich and Brentford in that time, and a gutsy 1-0 defeat to Man City, they’ll fancy their chances of frustrating their hosts here.
Head-to-Head: Derby Drama Incoming?
Chelsea edged a 4-3 thriller in the reverse fixture and have won the last 3 meetings, but don’t expect another goal fest. The Blues have scored just 2 in their last 3 league games and Spurs will look to keep things tight.
Still, both teams to score has landed in 10 of Chelsea’s 14 home league games this season, and with attacking talent on both sides, there should be chances at either end.
One to Watch: Enzo Fernandez
Fresh from scoring in Argentina’s 4-1 demolition of Brazil, Fernandez is playing with confidence. He’s already netted against Spurs once this season and is a tempting shout to do so again at Stamford Bridge.
