The Manchester derby returns to Old Trafford this Sunday with both sides at very different ends of the Premier League spectrum. City are building momentum, while United continue to struggle under Ruben Amorim.
City finding rhythm without Haaland
Pep Guardiola’s men may be missing their star striker, but City have shown no signs of slowing down. The Blues are returning to Wembley later this month for the FA Cup semi-finals after a 1st leg win, while Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Leicester moved them into 4th place before Chelsea regained that spot, but they are just 1 point off 4th place now.
City have now scored 2+ goals in 4 of their last 5 games and have been dominant in away games against bottom-half clubs. That spells trouble for United.
Another Old Trafford setback looming?
Manchester United fell to a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, halting a modest 4game unbeaten run. Their record against top sides continues to disappoint, with no wins at home against teams in the Top 8.
Aside from victories over struggling sides, United have managed just 2 wins in 11 home games against stronger opposition. Their win at the Etihad earlier in the season remains one of the few bright spots in a lacklustre campaign.
Players to watch: Marmoush stepping up
With Haaland out, Omar Marmoush has stepped up superbly. The January signing has scored in each of City’s last 3 matches and has netted 5 goals in his last 6 league appearances. He’ll be key to unlocking a United defence conceding 1.67 goals per game at home.
